I have five kids — and most nights, I was losing them to screens that weren't growing them or connecting us. What got me wasn't the screen time itself. It was this: the same kid who "couldn't focus" on homework would lock in for 45 minutes straight in a well-designed game — following instructions, finishing challenges, building something. The motivation was never the problem. The design was. So I stopped trying to take screens away and I built one worth their time. I worked with child and family therapists, educators, parents and children to build Kudo Kids for ages 3–12. Kids earn coins by doing real things — routines, learning games, affirmations, meditation, emotion check-ins and learning — and spend them in-app on 3D companions they meet in AR with animations, skins, auras and stickers to unlock. The can also spend coins on screen time, stories, safe web browsing, multiplayer games with safe social messaging. No VC, no ads, no data sold — just families. A progress dashboard for parents showing weekly streaks and skill milestones would be huge. Right now I can't tell if my kid is actually growing or just tapping through activities. Bonus if it lets me set quiet hours that auto-lock the app during dinner.
