Krate Studio lets you choose Claude or Codex, describe a desktop app, and receive one portable Wasm .krate file. It is not HTML or an operating-system container. The same app format opens through native Krate runtimes on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Apps begin without file or network access and receive only capabilities the user approves. Krate is free and open source. Krate Cloud is optional.

Hi Product Hunt,
I started Krate after making a small Mac utility that was useful to me but hard to share with anyone using another operating system.
AI makes this problem much larger. People can now create grocery lists, habit trackers, and tiny personal tools in minutes, but the result usually stays as source code, a browser deployment, or an operating-system-specific app the next person has to trust.
Krate tries a different model. Claude can create one .krate file from a plain request. The same file opens locally on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Before it runs, Krate shows what it wants to access and gives it only what the user approves.
The runtime, AI authoring flow, double-click opening, local persistence, and permission enforcement work today. Krate Cloud for publishing, discovery, identity, and updates is the next product and is not built yet.
I am looking for people willing to make one small app and tell me the first place the process becomes confusing or fails.
