Hi everyone! 👋
I was working on Konark Run, a browser-based endless runner inspired by the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, and wanted to share it with the community
Instead of creating another generic endless runner, I wanted to celebrate one of India's most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.
It is ad-free and runs entirely in your browser
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the gameplay, controls, difficulty, and overall experience.
Thanks for checking it out!

Does the game feature any power-ups tied to specific Odia sweets, or is it purely a runner with no progression system beyond high scores?

@hamdivt3x Yes, the game has three power-ups! Two are Odia sweets, and one is the traditional Odia dish of Pakhala. So, Rasagola gives you 3x points for 10 seconds, Chenna Poda clears the path for 10 seconds, and with Pakhala, you get a shield against one obstacle. The progression is to stay alive as long as possible, which keeps increasing the score by checking whether the isRunning flag is true and the scroll speed after the timer has elapsed.

How does the difficulty scale as you progress through the temple, and are there any unlockable characters or levels tied to collecting those Odia sweets?

@kemalsekretjbz The speed of the character increases in proportion to the time elapsed, and the number of obstacles spawned also increases by a similar factor. There are no unlockable characters as of now, nor are there any levels; only the speed and obstacles increase. The sweets act as power-ups.

The Konark Sun Temple setting is such a cool pick, really sets it apart from generic runners. Quick question though, is this a one time purchase or does it have ads and in app purchases I should know about before jumping in?
The temple ruins make such a cool backdrop for a runner, way more interesting than the usual generic city stuff. Caught myself going back for the chhena poda just for the points.

@cmelih282 Thank you so much. I actually got into game dev and wanted to create a simple game as much as possible. And being from Odisha, my first thought was temple ruins as a backdrop, given we have a lot of temples in my state We also have the pakhala and the rasagola power-ups for a clear path and 3x points. Will try to improve the gameplay and the storytelling aspect as we progress. Thank you for checking it out!

The choice to set a retro runner against the actual silhouette of the Konark Sun Temple gives it way more personality than another generic pixel world. Love how the Odia sweets feel like a natural fit for the dodge-and-collect loop instead of a forced gimmick.
The pixel art of the temple ruins looks really well-researched, love how you can spot the actual architectural details in the background layers. Solid runner mechanics too.
