Hey PH! 👋 I built KidSafe because I kept running into the same problem: YouTube's algorithm optimizes for watch time, not for what's actually good for a kid's development — and there's no good way to tell the difference between a channel that's genuinely enriching versus one that's just really good at holding attention. KidSafe.watch is an editorial safety index for kids' YouTube channels. Every channel gets scored across 34 criteria — 18 "good" signals (learning value, emotional literacy, pacing, production quality) and 16 "risk" factors (hyperflashing visuals, manipulation tactics, excessive ads, fear-inducing content) — rolled up into a single 0–100 safety score with three tiers: Safe, Caution, Not Safe. A few things I tried to get right: - It shows its work. Click into any channel and you get the full breakdown — not just a score, but why, mapped to actual child-development impact. - It's not a blocklist. Plenty of hugely popular channels score well; plenty of "wholesome-looking" ones don't. The point is visibility, not gatekeeping. - You can suggest channels — the index grows from what parents are actually watching with (or worried about) their kids. It's still early — the index is growing, and I'm actively adding channels every week.
