In a world where most web software launches are some type of AI powered this or that, sometimes with high prices, it's important to remember that people need basics too. PM tools like Asana are too expensive for small businesses. So, I took the open source kanboard.org software and created managed hosting for it. No need to know how to install or maintain Kanboard, and this tool has everything you need to manage multiple projects and team members.
Refreshing to see a launch that's just "we hosted a good open source tool so you don't have to install it" instead of another AI wrapper. One question since it's managed hosting on top of someone else's open source project: if a customer wants to leave, is the export path a clean Kanboard-compatible backup they could self-host again, or does it lock into your specific setup? That's usually the thing that decides whether I trust a managed-hosting model for something long-lived like project data.
@galdayan Yes, with some config file changes. But, I'm going to add a better export option to make moving to a self-hosted Kanboard even more seamless. Thanks for the idea! This will probably be implemented within a few days.
@wilcosky appreciate you actually committing to build it rather than just noting it down - that's the difference between a managed-hosting product I'd trust with real project data and one I'd stay wary of. will look out for the export option
@galdayan It's implemented! Thanks for suggesting it and commenting. Users can now potentially get started at Kantanban.com and then whenever change their mind, export, and self host Kanboard. A fairly unheard of option. No lock in.
@wilcosky that's fast turnaround for a "few days" estimate. genuinely the kind of thing that would make me trust a managed-hosting product with real data - most teams would just quietly shelve a request like this. good luck with the launch
Love seeing a no-frills option like this for smaller teams who don't need all the bells and whistles. One thing that would make it even better would be a built-in time tracking feature with simple reports per project, since right now you'd need a separate tool to see how much time tasks are actually taking.

Finally a kanban option that doesn't try to lock you into an AI suite or charge per seat. Setup was painless and the hosting just worked, which is honestly all I wanted.
Nice to see someone bringing the no nonsense basics back. Signed up and had a project board running in a couple of minutes, no fuss. Finally a PM tool that doesn't try to upsell me an AI coach.
love that you just hosted kanboard and didn't try to reinvent it. honestly the pricing approach here is way more useful than another bloated ai project manager.
Nice to see something simple and useful without all the AI hype. Board setup was quick and the clean Kanboard layout felt right at home for managing a few small projects.
