Kachunk is a tiny menu bar app that makes every keystroke sound like a real typewriter or mechanical keyboard. 26 packs recorded from real machines β margin bell included. Free to download, $4.99 once for everything. No subscription. Try the sounds in your browser before downloading.
Hey Product Hunt! π
I missed the sound of typing. Modern laptop keyboards are silent, and it turns out the clack-clack-ding was doing more for my focus than I realized.
So we built Kachunk: a tiny macOS menu bar app that plays real recorded sounds for every key you press. Not synthesized clicks β we recorded two actual typewriters and 24 mechanical keyboard switches, and every strike gets slight pitch and volume variation so it never sounds like a loop. Typewriter packs even have the margin bell and the carriage-return slide.
A few things we cared about:
π Try before you install β the sounds run right in your browser at getkachunk.com
π§ Stays out of the way β one menu bar icon: pack, volume, mute. That's it.
π Collects nothing β no analytics, no telemetry, no account
πΈ No subscription β free to download with free packs; $4.99 once unlocks all 26 packs forever
It works on macOS 13+ and updates itself via Sparkle.
I'd love to hear which pack you end up living in β and if there's a switch or typewriter you want us to record next, tell me and we'll hunt one down. I'll be here all day! β¨οΈπ
Great app! I am kachunking my way on my laptop!
