Journal is a beautiful, minimalist, and non-intrusive macOS app for your journals and notes. It puts you right into the flow of writing, is privacy-first, supports Markdown, and works offline too!
@francois_carlier thanks! π€ π The only user-facing authentication is via Apple or Google, if you refer to the secret key for encryption, that's a security feature which is not user-facing. Does it answer your question?
Report
@jarek_ceborski Yes. I think it would be interesting to offer the option to lock Journal with a password, locally.
This is amazing and the most beautiful app I have seen in a long time. I want to use this for all my notes. Any plans for a search function? Thanks ππ»
@mads_elsoe1 thank you π Great point β yes, there is a lot already prepared for a search functionality, I've just postponed it because it makes the most sense when you have a lot of entries β which means it will become a priority this year (more or less).
πΒ Hey Product Hunters, Iβve created a beatiful Journal app for macOS!
Here's the problem I had, and the solution I thought of:
π€Β Problem
I struggled to find a good journaling app for myself. I tried many, but they were either too intrusive, too complex, or not visually appealing (yeah, Iβm a designer). I was constantly frustrated by the same bad user experience: I'd have an idea or thought that I wanted to write down, but then I'd forget it while searching for an app, folder, or workspace.
πΒ Solution
The goal of Journal is to create a single, uncluttered, and beautiful place for your journals and notes. Here are the principles Iβve set:
1. Frictionless. After you open Journal, you are taken directly to Today's view, no questions asked, no looking for folders/workspaces, no friction.
2. Privacy. Your data is always encrypted and you are the only one with the secret key to decrypt it. You own your data and can download or export it at any time.
3. Works offline. You can use Journal without any interruptions when you are offline.
βοΈΒ Cheers and happy writing!
PS Thanks to beta testers who helped shape Journal to its current state! Iβm open for feedback, there is a feedback form in the app, located in the bottom-right corner.
This app looks simple and beautiful. Is there a roadmap that we can look at to see whatβs next? Iβm guessing the top most requested will be to have a mobile app, haha.
The magical word "Beautuseful" could have been used to describe Journal App -> It's beautiful AND useful π
Jokes aside, Journal is simply fantastic: UX/UI is top-notch, pricing is affordable, and it's made by an indie maker!
Congrats Jarek and good luck for today π
Great tool for daily journaling and making random notes. It has clean and minimalistic design that is very pleasant to use. Highly encourage you to check it out. Great tool Jarek, keep improving it :)
