StairSmith is a free, open-source 3D stair creator that runs entirely in your browser. Enter your dimensions (going, rising, width, headroom, floor-to-floor height) and the online staircase designer generates a fully resolved 3D staircase preview in real time using Three.js. All geometry computation happens client-side through Pyodide and Shapely, so there is nothing to install and no data leaves your machine. The 3D stair creator outputs include IFC4X3 for BIM workflows and DXF for 2D drafting, making it straightforward to take a tested design into your CAD or BIM environment. Built by Jake White, a Chartered Architectural Technologist based in West Sussex, this online staircase designer was created to solve a practical problem: quickly testing staircase options during feasibility and technical design without opening full CAD software.
