I used to love building and shipping products and then life happened. It's been 2056 days since I shipped something truly new. That's why Invoicy isn't just a product I'm proud of - it's also my gateway back into the mindset I used to love so much.
After a few months of handcrafting pixel-perfect multilingual invoices in Sketch, I decided to build Invoicy. From the start, I knew exactly what I wanted, so for the next 2 years, I spent my weekends and nights creating something centered around 4 core ideas:
Contextual - I love when tools adapt to me and help me make smart decisions. That's why Invoicy is more than just a simple form.
Automatable - At heart, I'm an engineer, and automating manual, error-prone, and annoying tasks is what brings me joy. That's why Invoicy lets you automate almost everything.
Localizable - I can tell you that there wasn't probably anything as annoying as maintaining invoices in multiple languages. That's why I wanted to make this as easy as possible.
Expressive - I love colors, weird shapes, and uniqueness that's why I want to promote it in a place as cold as invoicing. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to send a bit more colorful invoice on your special day.
Beyond these core tech-oriented ideas, I also value products where:
- Privacy isn't an afterthought
- You own your data
- The software feels native and at home
- Usability isn't sacrificed for looks
Invoicy isn't trying to be for everyone. It's built around the core ideas that matter to me, and it gives you the tools to tweak those ideas.
Finally, just to be fully honest, invoicing software doesn't wake me up at night, and I don't live and breathe for it. However, a cool product that sticks to its values, helps achieve goals, and makes life more enjoyable is something I can get behind.
