InTheMoment is a mindfulness app that uses AI to create meditation and self-hypnosis sessions tailored to your day. Instead of picking from a library of pre-recorded tracks, have a short conversation with our AI assistant and let it handle the rest.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how social media is teaching our brains to work. We all know the saying “you're a product of your environment” but I think we often forget that this includes the content we consume online as well as the real world. Is social media really harmless, or does an hour of scrolling actually change the way we think? Especially now, with content being designed by AI specifically for us, it feels even more important to be intentional about what we let in. And I only see this problem getting worse.
So, I built this app for myself. I didn’t want to fall victim to mindless consumption anymore, and I wanted to protect myself from what I think is to come in the near future.
Living more in the moment was something social media had taken away from me, and meditation seemed like the obvious path to rediscover that. But after a year of using guided meditation apps, I always wished I could interact with the teacher to ask questions, give feedback, or have the session fit what was going on in my life in that moment. Just like a personal trainer does in the gym, or a personal tutor does for study, I wanted one for mindfulness. Not a therapist, but a trainer.
That’s why I set out to build a platform where you can actually provide feedback to the narrator, both before and after each session. Every session is generated to fit your needs in that moment.
Traditional guided meditation platforms offer the benefit of having structured lessons, designed by meditation experts, and I realised it was important to not lose this to the AI. Platforms like Headspace contain courses which combine specific focuses, such as sleep, sports performance, or self confidence, with meditation literature. Not only do you get value through learning how to meditate, but also through the ideas and content being taught. You trust that it's been designed by someone who's an expert in meditation. Unfortunately, out of the box, AI doesn't have this trust. That's why I decided to build content playlists, each containing lessons which progressively introduce different teachings and techniques. Instead of letting the AI generate anything it wants, these human-written playlists guide the AI like a curriculum, ensuring that what it's teaching is what you would be taught by any other meditation tutor. Combining this with the pre-session check-in and post-session feedback allows me to take this further by ensuring each lesson is delivered in a context and style that fits.
Hypnosis combines the ideas of meditation with those of visualisation. The brain learns through repeat experiences, and so by relaxing the body and the mind (removing distractions) and visualising yourself being in a situation whilst feeling a certain way, we're able to train our subconscious via this simulated experience. For example self-hypnosis could be used to improve your confidence when public speaking by exposing your subconscious to that situation whilst evoking a sense of confidence. It doesn't work overnight, but through practice I think this is something that anyone can benefit from.
And so after six months of development, I’m extremely proud of what I’ve been able to create. If you’re looking for a more mindful, personalised approach to meditation, one that listens to you, I hope you’ll give it a try.
