I worked at LinkedIn from 2011-2014 and always wondered who would go out and build the LinkedIn for 1099 and wage workers (which is a large part of the population). Kudos to the Instawork team for coming at this problem from an interesting angle by solving a real pain point for all small business owners.
@sidviswanathan Sid, thanks for the comment. We're focused more on better understanding our talent pool and matching it to the right local job opportunities at scale, and less about professional networking. But if we can nail that core, we're excited about where we can go from there.

@sidviswanathan Sid, curious why the LinkedIn for 1099/hourly workers isn't LinkedIn - are there needs that workers of that nature have that aren't addressed by LinkedIn?
I love this concept! I do wonder though - when you say you source qualified candidates within 24 hours, is that because you have a list of people signed up with self-described skills or because you scour other places such as Craigslist? Also, for jobs like baker - more skilled work than dishwasher - how do you test the candidates' skills?
Hey everybody,
I'm a co-founder of Instawork (YC S15). Instawork delivers high quality hourly candidates to small businesses < 24 hours.
Most sophisticated recruiting platforms have traditionally served high-end jobs, but missed the majority of Americans who work hourly or part-time positions. Finding these kinds of jobs has been a manual process for both businesses and job candidates (for example, by hanging a “help wanted” sign in the window). 25M business and 80M hourly workers have this problem.
We automate the entire process for a small business owner. Think of us as their hiring concierge.

@saureen how many candidates do you have in the platform and in how many markets?
Interesting concept...a quick question here...Do you guys also have candidates listed who are looking for part time/Internships in startups? I'm the Co-Founder of Voizd (mobile app) and have been searching for interns on various websites like Internship.com etc (in the Bay Area) but the response time is long and what I'm looking for is immediate hiring.
Would love to try out the app in case you guys do have candidates listed.
Cheers!
As an EIR last year, I spent a lot of time thinking about this and even prototyped a near-identical product. I think there is a huge need for this for both workers and business owners. The current process from application - to approval to "career" management for blue collar workers is horribly inefficient. Congrats on launching this Sumir and Saureen!
Incredible! Are you tracking if companies are retaining hourly employees placed by Instawork for longer periods of time? I'd love to hear about some of the data you're measuring.
There are lots of places where a small business owner can list an hourly job. But Instawork is the only one where qualified and high quality job candidates are guaranteed to be sent to them in under 24 hours. Most listing services require a much longer wait and force hiring managers to do a lot more work, which really sets Instawork apart.
Sumir and Saureen have years of experience from Groupon and YouTube and are a remarkable product/engineering team. We're proud to have them in YC S15.
