@chethan_bm Hey Chethan, thank you for the comment! Do share the app with those you think would benefit from it and also do reach out to us if you receive any valuable feedback & ideas!

Hey @jesonduthie really cool app and great to see people working on things to improve women's safety. I really like the idea of the fake calls as well as the anonymous recordings 👏🏻 Can you tell us more about the trigger device, how does it communicate with the app, via BLE? I have worked on similar apps in the past, and keeping the connection alive when the app is in the background (especially on Android) can be a huge challenge. Congrats on the launch 🚀
Jeson Duthie
@crebuh Hey Christofer, thank you!! Yeah, Fake call has been one of the most loved features that we have! It also helps users slide away from an uncomfortable meeting or various other places as well! I will give you a longer response soon below for the BLE connection question you have asked! We have faced a lot of issues for the same, but Android has been good to us compared to IOS where we still face issues!
Jeson Duthie
@crebuh With regards to the BLE connection - We have implemented a foreground service in our Android app that triggers a notification when a BLE device connects. This service continues to run even when the app is in background mode, maintaining the connection to the app. Should the BLE device move out of range and disconnect, the service will attempt to reconnect until the user manually terminates the connection. The foreground service will cease operation once the user manually disconnects the BLE device. All this said, sometimes we still encounter some issues with different manufacturers, android versions etc. So we aim to eventually move to a GPRS device with GPS enabled. This will make it easier for users as they just have to connect to the app once and then the phone need not even be near or turned on. Although this would affect battery life and the size would increase, but we are working with some manufacturers to strike a good balance.
Christofer Huber
@jesonduthie thx for the insights 🙏🏻 Yes, the foreground service is the way to go. We also had to test with the battery optimization settings to get better results. And yes, there are majo differences between the different manufacturers. Using the Google Pixel series with a stock Android was the most consistent 😅. GPRS is definitely a good and reliable option for the device itself, but I think especially in the beginning this is also a cost factor to consider because it would require an additional SIM card. From my point of view this should not even be necessary. Google and Apple on the other hand should give developers more options to create such useful apps instead of restricting so many things 🙈.

I’m Safe’s blend of emergency features and social connectivity is impressive. Congratulations on your launch!
Jeson Duthie
@kadyouilina Thank you, Kady! We are working hard to continue to improve existing features and also build more needed tools like a diary and many others.

Hey Jeson, I'm wondering about the battery usage, especially with features like real-time GPS tracking. Have you optimized for minimal drain? Are there any plans to partner with local law enforcement for more immediate response in emergencies? Congrats on the launch!
Jeson Duthie
@kyrylosilin Hey Kyrylo, Thank you for the comment. We have optimised it for minimal battery drain right now. On top of this, we will be pushing for an update soon, which will allow users to choose how often they want the location to be updated, giving them options like real-time, once in 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour etc. This way if the user is using a device that is not good with battery, they can also optimise it by opting to reduce the GPS pings.
Jeson Duthie
@kyrylosilin When we did our survey, we heard from a lot of users that they were not comfortable directly going to law enforcement, so we did not include it in our interactions so far. But in the coming days, we aim to have an indirect way help can be received from local law enforcement since they are the first responders and we need them. We are thinking, the trusted contacts who get the alert can make a calculated decision if the request needs to go to the control room or not. Still chewing on these ideas. Feel free to give us some thoughts. :)

Wonderful to witness people taking action to make women safer!
Jeson Duthie
@daria_ofitserova Thank you for the encouragement Daria! We need more and more people to take up this issue and work on it as one app or even 10 apps can not solve this mountain of a problems we are dealing with.
