Hey everyone! We are getting everything ready for our official launch tomorrow, but I wanted to kick off a quick discussion here first.
Let us be honest for a second. When did watching a television show or paying for a basic streaming subscription become treated like a financial crime?
Traditional personal finance apps love to lecture people. They send scolding notifications or claim that canceling a ten pound streaming service is going to magically solve high living costs and rent inflation. It is exhausting. People work hard all week, and wanting to relax on the sofa with a film should not come with a side of digital guilt or spreadsheet homework.
That frustration is exactly why I started building Holly. We built an anti-guilt personal finance app that looks at your money holistically, automatically ring-fencing your fixed commitments the moment payday hits so you actually know what is safe to spend without the judgment.
Like a lot of people in my generation, I spent years dreading the moment I had to open my banking app.
Every time I looked at my balance before a weekend out, or checked my accounts after getting paid, I was met with either complete guesswork or passive-aggressive guilt. I tried all the popular personal finance apps on the market, but they all felt fundamentally flawed.
Most budgeting tools operate like a stern lecture. They treat every £4 coffee or dinner with friends like a moral failure, inundating you with notifications telling you off, or claiming that canceling a £10 Netflix subscription is somehow going to magically fix your rent and bills. They force you to spend your Sunday evenings playing accountant, manually tagging transactions into 50 arbitrary budget buckets just to answer one basic question: "What can I actually spend today without getting caught short later?"
The reality of modern living is simple: fixed commitments like rent, utilities, and council tax swallow up most of your paycheck. Cutting out minor daily pleasures isn't the solution, fixing the underlying math is.
That is why I started building Holly.
Holly is a premium personal finance app built on one core philosophy: Anti-Guilt Finance.
Instead of scolding you or forcing you into rigid spreadsheet homework, Holly looks at your financial life holistically. Connecting directly to your UK bank accounts via Open Banking, Holly automatically isolates your fixed bills, direct debits, and savings targets the moment your salary lands. It ring-fences what is spoken for, leaving you with one clear, dynamic number: your true Safe-to-Spend cash.
Whether you want to check your daily allowance, test a purchase before tapping your card using our real-time simulator, or look 90 days into your financial future with Holly Horizon, Holly gives you total clarity without the judgment.
I am building Holly as a solo maker, iterating rapidly on the product and design to give UK Millennials and Gen Z an app that feels as sleek and modern as the devices in their pockets. We are getting ready for our official launch on iOS and Android, and I would love for you to join our early waitlist, test out the early beta, and help shape the future of stress-free personal finance.
