Historical Exchange Index is a public registry for crypto exchanges, active and gone. Instead of focusing on prices, rankings, or trading metrics, it treats exchanges as records with their own identity, timeline, and evidence trail. HEI separates entity, event, and evidence, tracks closures, acquisitions, rebrands, and enforcement-driven shutdowns, and uses archive-aware URL handling for dead-side entries where original domains may no longer be trustworthy.

Small update since launch.
HEI has continued to grow after the initial Product Hunt post.
The registry has expanded from 176 to 278 entities, from 233 to 488 events, and from 550 to 1,017 evidence records.
I also added a stats page to make the overall shape of the registry easier to inspect:

The stats page is meant to show more than just raw counts. It helps surface things like active-side vs dead-side distribution, archive coverage, and overall registry coverage.
It is still early, but HEI is gradually becoming more than a simple exchange list β the goal is to keep building it as a structured historical registry with entities, events, and evidence.
