The idea came from a simple frustration: security cameras are expensive, require proprietary apps, and lock you into ecosystems. Meanwhile, most of us have old phones sitting in drawers doing nothing.
I built Heimdall as a pure web app — no app store, no downloads. You open a URL on any device with a camera, and it becomes a security camera with encrypted P2P streaming, motion detection, and instant alerts. Your video never touches our servers.
The baby monitor use case was a happy accident — a friend was traveling and forgot their monitor. They used Heimdall on a spare hotel phone and it worked perfectly. So we leaned into that too.
