GrapeVine started because I was exhausted with the way dating apps worked. I had spent plenty of time swiping through strangers, having the same conversations, and wondering why dating technology had somehow made meeting people feel less human. Meanwhile, some of the most important relationships in my own life happened through other people. A friend knew someone then a friend made an introduction. There was already context and a little bit of trust before the conversation even started. That became the idea behind GrapeVine. What if instead of showing you an endless stack of strangers, a dating app could show you how you are already connected to someone? What if couples could stay on the platform and help their single friends meet? What if “I know someone you should meet” could actually become a product? The idea started as FriendOfAFriend about seven months ago. Since then it has changed names, changed designs, gained two other owners and developers, and gone from a concept to a working closed beta. We definitely do not have everything figured out yet. That is why we are launching here.
