As we built increasingly autonomous AI agents, we realized there was a missing piece of infrastructure: identity. Humans have passports, businesses have legal entities, and websites have domains and certificates. AI agents have none of these. Today, any agent can claim to be anything. There's no standard way to prove who created it, verify ownership, establish reputation, or cryptographically sign actions. GentID started as an attempt to solve that problem. We built an open-source identity layer where every AI agent can generate a unique cryptographic identity backed by Ed25519 keypairs. Agents can sign messages, verify each other, prove provenance, and carry a portable identity across platforms and ecosystems. Our vision is simple: in the future, billions of AI agents will interact with humans, businesses, APIs, and other agents. Trust cannot depend on usernames or centralized platforms. It must be verifiable. GentID is our contribution toward making the agentic internet more trustworthy, interoperable, and secure.
