What do you think? …

jacopo beschi

Hello PH gang! 👋

I’m Jacopo, the maker of Gblock, a Chrome extension that blocks email tracking in Gmail. It stops spy pixels and cleans up tracking links, providing you with a full protection against email tracking 🔒.

Why did I build Gblock?
Because your inbox shouldn’t spy on you. Most people don’t realize that the majority of emails contain invisible tracking pixels or redirect links that report back when, where, and even what device you used to open them; all without your consent, so I built Gblock to fix it.

How does it work?
📨 Works right inside Gmail
🕵️ Blocks spy pixels before they load
🧠 Automatically detects new spy pixels
🔗 Anonymizes and cleans up tracking links
⚙️ Simple setup: Install the Chrome extension, and you're protected
🔍 Bonus: you can see exactly what’s being blocked, if you’re curious.

Gblock is live with a 30-day free trial. Try it out, see how many emails are tracking you, and let me know what you think!
I’d love your feedback, bug reports, or ideas. And if you care about digital privacy, I think you’ll find Gblock refreshing.

@jacopo_beschi1 Super useful! Most people don’t even realize how many emails are secretly tracking them. Love how Gblock brings transparency and control back into Gmail. Congrats on the launch!

@kui_jason Thanks! it’s gross once you realize how many emails are silently tracking you. Gblock already blocks over 4,000 different spy trackers automatically, and thanks to our automated detection, that number keeps growing. The more people use Gblock, the faster it improves. Appreciate the support!

This is great! Does it work on new emails only or will it block tracking for previously received emails too?

jacopo beschi

@adamrice it works for all emails, also the one already received before you installed the extension.

Love the name.

Can't wait to check this out. Impressive as a Solo dev.

Seriously, Gblock is a banger.

Is this similar to Firefox Relay ?

jacopo beschi

@vlad_nedelcu2 Gblock and Firefox Relay are similar in that they both aim to protect your privacy, but they focus on different aspects.

Gblock is highly focused on blocking email spy trackers and link tracking, using a comprehensive and auto-updated list of known tracking domains + a redirect proxy. It’s built to enhance privacy directly in your Gmail inbox, without changing how you use email.

Firefox Relay, on the other hand, is more focused on creating email and SMS masks to hide your real contact information. It helps you avoid giving out your real email or phone number, but it doesn’t specialize in detecting or blocking trackers within emails.

You can already disable tracking inside Gmail. It’ll block tracking pixels. What am I missing?
jacopo beschi

@derkolstad Good question! Gmail does not block tracking pixels AFAIK, it only uses an image proxy such that your IP address is anonymized, but the spy pixel is still loaded. Gblock automatically blocks tracking pixels and reports the trackers blocked in the UI. Gblock has its own automated and up-to-date list. Additionally, it offers link tracking protection.

Derek
@jacopo_beschi1 yeah it’s in your settings. Just hit "Ask before displaying external images" and it’ll block all those tracking pixels. I use it and have tried to fool it as well for testing 😅
jacopo beschi

@derkolstad Ahh I see what you mean! But this setting blocks all the external images in an email. Gblock instead blocks only the spy pixels so you can still see all the images (no visual glitches) and enjoy your privacy without loosing any functionality. And It also shows who is tracking you as a bonus.
