I was inspired to make Ganttly after helping my sister create a Gantt chart for her new boss. She had never made one before and her industry did not usually use project planners like this.
It became obvious how difficult it is to use traditional Gantt charts casually. They tend to live on a computer, and once shared as a printout or PDF, are no longer adjustable on the fly. Version control can be tricky, they can be difficult to keep handy throughout the day for people on the move, and switching between detailed daily planning and broader views isn’t always quick or intuitive. Even creating and updating one can feel much more complicated than it should.
That made me want to build a Gantt chart planner that felt accessible regardless of someone’s industry, experience, or type of project; An easy-to-use app that is visual, quick to adjust, and straightforward to understand in an instant.
Colors absolutely set the tone. I love thoughtful palettes and cohesive aesthetics, and I think planning should feel calming rather than visually overwhelming. Traditional Gantt charts often default to bright blues, greens, and yellows, so I spent a lot of time creating softer color combinations and a more minimal interface.
The color themes in Ganttly are designed to coordinate inherently, so users don’t have to spend extra time figuring out which colors work together. If someone loves choosing custom colors, they can. If they don’t want to think about it at all, any option within a suggested theme should still result in a plan that feels cohesive and easy on the eyes, without accidentally ending up as a rainbow clash of colors.
Low-friction and privacy were important to me too. I don’t like downloading an app and immediately being asked to create another account, so Ganttly does not require a separate sign-in. There are no ads, tracking, or third-party analytics. Your personal projects stay on your device, and if you choose to collaborate, sharing and syncing are handled through iCloud.
The goal with Ganttly is to keep what makes Gantt charts useful, visualizing timelines as adjustable task-duration bars, while making the experience much more approachable for everyday planning.
