The other co-founders of Galactic (@harper, @dylanr, & @gauri_galactic) and I are stoked to have @chrismessina hunt this for us! tl;dr: Galactic is building products for the new internet and our first experiment is the Galactic Camera, a fun and easy way to add personalized and visual effects to your video. ----- ** Why did we build the Galactic Camera? ** At the start of the pandemic, we were stuck in our homes trying to figure out OBS and other software to make video chat more interesting. Setting up these solutions isn’t easy or intuitive, and takes more work than we wanted.. Galactic Camera gives anyone access to all the fun effects and visuals that our streamer and Twitch friends are used to, without the complicated setup. ----- ** Why would I use the Galactic Camera? ** 🌈 Video meetings can be stale and boring. I pitched in on Galactic Camera the past couple months to help get the macOS app across the finish line (mostly adding M1-compatibility and fixing some video pipeline issues). I absolutely can't tolerate meetings anymore where I don't have my Galactic Camera running. It allows me to be more expressive and participatory in meetings without derailing the meeting's purpose and flow. I work at Galactic, and I have been beta testing Galactic Camera for months. Now—this is not an understatement— I feel naked in a Google Meet or a Zoom without Galactic Cam. I use it every day for purposes personal and professional. Galactic can be whatever you want it to be. You can use it to do Very Serious Business and add professional details like a watermark or just go wild. It's delightful for meeting attendees unfamiliar with it. People are always surprised and impressed you're able to bring that level of custom to a Zoom meeting not knowing it's so simple to do. Not only does Galactic Cam simplify adding overlays etc it also simplifies the overlay/effect creation process too—using the product unleashed some latent creativity I didn't even know I had in me. I got super into making apps and personalized overlays and frames (they say my name, contact details, qr codes etc). I would have never known where or how to get started creating for video before this came into my life and Galactic Cam made it so I can focus on the way I want my video to look and achieving that vision, using the basic creative skills (Photoshop, Procreate, HTML/CSS/JS) I already had. Apart from just how awesome it is to have the sickest Zoom meetings in town... I've loved feeling so inspired. :)

Lucky enough to have seen this evolve over the past year or so. Simply put: Friends don't let friends use boring cameras.
