I had high hopes for this software - that it would be a great alternative to the more expensive Adobe products. However, I find the key frame logic very counter intuitive and fiddly to adjust positions, motion and objects due to key frame complexity. In the past I was quite a maestro of Flash animation and also Adobe Animate which is essentially a re-packaging of Flash (with bugs and no updates). I ask myself - why can't somebody just resurrect Flash? It did everything this package is trying to do but with solid keyframe behaviour. I did not find that it dealt with imports very well and did not succeed at importing any of my Figma animations.
In the end, with perserverence and many references to video guidance, I managed to create all the animations I required for the product I was working on, but not without a lot of frustration and fiddling.
I'm trying to do some exploding icons where initial menu icons break into parts to give users a clear and continual hint as to how the UI works, rather than an onboarding screen. (Totally inspired by Canva's "more" button becoming a close X).
Just quickly putting a couple of artboards together from my design doc and playing with it in Flow has let me realise things about the UI much faster than my imagined presentation.
My biggest concern right now is how to combine the generated code because I want to have four different menu buttons with their own animations - lots of room for tutorial articles.
I've been using it since the early alpha and just bought a copy now there's a paid release. It generates clean code for the fiddly business of animation so can save a huge amount of time fine-tuning code.
I've been anticipating this launch since the Alpha! I was in one of the beta groups several months back and really liked the product then, so I'm jacked to try it out now that it's launched. I've also been on their slack channel keeping tabs on their efforts to deliver a user-focused product that delivers results. This app will save designers a lot of time! I will say that the team building this product is an awesome group focused on users. Stoked to see it launch! Congrats.
Hello hunters!
I've followed Flow for nigh-on a year, and am now part of the team in a UX role.
Even in the last year, I've watched Flow develop strongly, and they've really beefed out & cleaned up their code exporting functionality.
Definitely a product to give a spin, and see how it might smooth your process out. From a Product Management mindset, Flow is a breath of fresh air in an expensive process.
Would love to hear your feedback and opinions about your experience, you can catch me on our Slack @Andrew M .
I stumbled across this product and it is absolutely fantastic. I've been doing iOS development for ~7 years, and this tool makes a big difference to my development cycles. If you're looking to make a professional app or product, Flow is perfect for anyone to create powerful and polished animations. In addition, they have high-quality documentation and responsive support for the platform. I can't wait to see how the product evolves over time. 11/10 would recommend!
Amazingly simple animation software. Just subscribe today, and feels so familiar with the layout (If you are sketch users). Looking forward to have animated typography feature and more pre-made gesture like fluttering flag.
