Flashy turns words you spot in real life into interactive flashcards. Beyond dictionary definitions, it teaches slang, double meanings, and cultural context—so you sound like a local, not a textbook.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I’m Gabriela, a Product Manager (and now an indie dev!). I speak multiple languages, but I’ve always struggled with one thing: sounding like a local. At some point, I hit that language plateau where I could “get by,” but not fit in.
The idea for Flashy came from that struggle:
📖 I’d read signs, menus, or books in French, Google the word… and end up with a stiff dictionary definition that didn’t explain the slang or double meanings.
🥲 It left me speaking correctly, but never naturally.
So I decided to build the tool I wished I had. With zero coding experience (and a lot of trial, error, and tutorials), I coded Flashy myself:
👉 Flashy isn’t just a dictionary list. Every word comes with:
• How locals actually use it
• Cultural meaning (not just literal translation)
• Whether it’s slang, formal, or outdated/cringe
• Idioms, expressions, and related words
Basically: all the things I wish a language app had when I was stuck in that plateau.
I started sharing “scan words with me in Paris” TikToks, and the first one hit 55K views. My DMs were full of people asking for the app. That’s when I knew I had to ship it...
Now it’s live. Flashy is for anyone learning languages who wants to go beyond “textbook fluent” and actually sound like a local.
Would love your feedback!
👉 What feature would make this 10x more useful for you?
👉 Would you use this for study, travel, or everyday curiosity?
✨ Words are everywhere. Now you have a place to keep them.
Thanks so much for checking it out!
Had the opportunity to be a beta tester and immediately fell in love with the concept and the approach. Really looking forward to seeing flashy grow into its full potential. Congrats Gabby!
I’ve been happy to use this since the closed beta! My French vocabulary has improved a lot, especially thanks to the Vocab Builder feature. You rock @punchgabs !

I really needed this. I've been living in Paris but work in English. I love how fun this makes learning the things I would normally just walk by everyday.
