The year is 2012, and all the nerdy people at middle school are talking about this new game, Minecraft. I was indoctrinated as a console baby, going from PS1 to PS2, and eventually making the jump to XBOX. But Minecraft couldn't be played on a console, I needed a laptop.
How could I get my parents to spend hundreds of $$$ just for me to play in a landscape of 8-bit blocks? I need a laptop... I need a laptop... FOR SCHOOL!
It was a brilliant plan, I needed a laptop to write papers, make powerpoints, and oh... and if it happens to be able to play Minecraft... well, that's an unintended consequence.
But here's the problem. I didn't know what laptop I needed, since I was only 12 years old. I cracked open the Best Buy catalog and picked one. I didn't know specs, neither did my parents. I didn't know what an Intel processor was, what a graphics card was, it was all Greek to me.
Logically, I ended up with a laptop that could do school work, but could only run Minecraft at 30 frames per second. My FPS was horrible, but I loved that laptop and even have it to this day... collecting dust.
So many creations, from my first mud hutt to my first public server. Having to call Comcast to figure out my routers admin console password so that I (mind you im like 12-13) can port forward to open the server to my friends next door.
Somehow, I survived, on a laptop far beneath my needs. But darn, wouldn't it have been nice to get professional advice based on my needs for free.
That's why I started a business. You visit the website, and take a quiz, which has text boxes so you can tell it your needs. Then it gives you recommendations, with real links, and descriptions on how it fits your exact needs.
It's something I wish I had when I was a kid, so I built it for the next generation.

It would be helpful to add a price drop alert feature, so if a laptop you compared gets a discount or goes on sale, FindYaTech pings you automatically. That would save people from having to revisit the site constantly and makes the whole "shop confidently" promise feel even more useful.

@borantuw1 I agree, this could do well for re-targeting as well. Thanks for the tip Boran!

Would love to see a side by side comparison mode where I can pin two or three laptops and see the tradeoffs laid out plainly. Right now I have to mentally juggle specs across different screens, which kind of defeats the "shop confidently in minutes" promise.
