@iamchrismiller1
Hey Everyone! A few more things :)
- We have only just come out of beta but already have a huge music library! Some of our favorite artists have already signed up and regularly use Fanburst.
- Our API is open and allows you to instantly generate an API key. Other music APIs require registration and a lengthy approval process before you can start building. We want developers to use our API and library to build new listening experiences on desktop and mobile.
Here is a link to check it out: https://developers.fanburst.com
- It’s free for artists and fans, our monetisation plans don’t include ads or charging our users.
@griffellab There is no limit on streams through our API. We want to help artists reach as many fans as possible and this means we need to allow developers to build large apps on our platform.
@iamchrismiller1 You guys have grown so fast, what were some of the lessons you learned and wisdom you can pass on to others growing a marketplace/or community?
@loickm Hey Loïck!
I think the biggest difference is our focus on artist uploaded content, we want to be closer to a Youtube of music VS Soundcloud or Spotify. We want artists to have full control over their Fanburst profiles and what they choose to share with their fans.
Both an Android and iOS app are in the works :)
(@loickm@iamchrismiller1) I really like the distinction in the origin of the uploaded content...

Is there a way we can claim a username if it's inactive? Would really like to have an account with my username, midnight. Nonetheless, I am loving the idea of this entire site. Reminds me of TheArtistUnion.
@itsmidnightyo We don't have a formal process for claiming inactive usernames yet. If you send an email to chris@fanburst.com I'd be happy to contact the user and see if they would give up the name.

@iamchrismiller1 Thank you for clarifying that with me, will definitely be sure to do so. If they don't reply, what would you be able to do? I am also in love with the option to import from SoundCloud. I see so much potential in this! :)
Awesome! Glad to see you guys on here. I've always loved the simplicity of the site. P.S I just stumbled across your API. What are the limits on streaming? SoundCloud currently limits this to 12K a day (I believe).
@chrisunderdown Thanks Chris!
We don't have any stream limits on our API. In my opinion limiting daily plays effectively kills any third party ecosystem you can hope to build.
We are committed to keeping our API limit free, our only request is you properly credit and link to the artist's profile and that you don't rip the streams.
Congrats on the launch! Curious to hear more about the growth strategy... are you focused on the artist side first?
In other words, does your focus on giving artists full control to upload only the music they want to share the likely successful strategy in ultimately convincing artists to sign up, which, then, gives Fanburst more supply of music... ultimately dragging in the listeners and fans of those artists?
@johnexley Thanks John!
So far we have been focusing on the artist side, an unexpected benefit of this is most artists are themselves huge music fans. This means we are normally acquiring an eager new listener every time an artist registers.
Fanburst has been working on some really interesting approaches to music distribution and publishing for a while now. I love what @yuddidit and the team are up to, and I'm excited to see what's next.
