What do you think? …

Michael Jelly
Hey hunters! We're 3 first time founders stepping into the big wide world, so it's super exciting to be able to show you all what we've built! We built Ethi because we think everyone should to be able to easily understand and control the data companies collect about them. But they don't make it easy! It's crazy that the only way to find out (1) how companies track you, (2) what they know about you and (3) how they use your data, was to trawl through their privacy policies and settings! Helping you understand and control your Facebook data is our first step towards our vision. Unfortunately we didn't manage to shoehorn in any cat memes or themes into Ethi yet (next time, I promise), but to make up for it we've made a **Special Promo Code** to give you 80% off your first month subscribed as an Early Believer (Just £1)! Use MASTERHUNTER in our Stripe Checkout-powered subscription to get that juicy deal. One of our fundamental principles is that our user is never the product. This means we can't give Ethi away completely free. But given that you need to trust us with your data (don't worry, it's encrypted), we think that's a feature, not a bug! If you can't afford it, drop us a Twitter DM @GetEthi and we'd be happy to help. Looking forward to hearing what you think, feedback good and bad is appreciated! Remember: MASTERHUNTER - it works even if you're not quite a "master" yet 😉

@getethi @michaeljelly There seems to be no limit to what tech companies can do with our data. I love your initiative, it's a great product and hope to see it grow! Congrats to the whole Ethi team!
Michael Jelly
@sam_abrika Thanks for the vote of confidence Sam - we've got a long journey ahead of us to make sure individuals and not tech companies can decide what to do with their data!
Csaba Kissi
@getethi @michaeljelly I like you guys created this. Sometimes I feel FB is even in my trousers 😀
Michael Jelly
@getethi @michaeljelly @csaba_kissi Hahaha I know what you mean! They really follow us everywhere, behind the scenes. We want to make it easy to understand and clean up all the stuff they know!

@michaeljelly Congratulations on the launch! I've used custom scripts to delete old Facebook data, I noticed that Facebook employs several tricks to inhibit such activity including hiding some posts at random while deleting and resurfacing it several months later. That's especially troubling when say a cringe post from a decade ago is the only post on your timeline and you'd never know unless you see your profile page! I hope Ethi has noticed that and has implemented contingency plans to address it.
David Gold
Is this open source? If so, can you share the repo?
Michael Jelly
@gavid_dold Hey David - we're actually looking for advice at the moment for whether we should go open source, and if we do it, how to do so successfully. I'd love to jump on a call and hear your thoughts about pros/cons of doing it if you would be up for that?
Adam Zolyak
@gavid_dold @michaeljelly could potentially add more services / features faster to amplify the impact
Michael Jelly
@gavid_dold @michaeljelly @adam_zolyak That's true - if people really started contributing it would be helpful!
David Gold
@gavid_dold @michaeljelly Sure - happy to help. Want to DM? I'm mostly concerned about how you hold a users data. You're asking a lot for us to put our entirely FB data into Ethi.
Michael Jelly
@gavid_dold @michaeljelly Yes please David! Hit me up on Twitter 😊 Totally agree - that's my main motivation for doing it. I think it's a really good way to build trust or even to not require trust.
Honestly, as someone active in the privacy community, I am proud that this is #1 product of the day. Good job!
Michael Jelly
@krskgabriel So glad you like it! We plan to make it the #1 product of the decade if we can ;) We think privacy is about so much more than just protecting yourself, we want to empower people everywhere to control their data, and also to use their data as a tool to make their lives better. Looking forward to you joining us on this journey! Feel free to book a chat with me at https://calendly.com/mike-ethi/chat if you want to tell me more about what you care about and how we can build Ethi to be even better for you!
Ellen Zehra Jale
We all know that data is collected about us but it is shocking and scary to see quite how much! Very eye opening
Michael Jelly
@ellen_zehra_jale Thanks Ellen, totally agree - we need a lot more transparency and action if we want a future where people can control who knows what about them!
Ellen Zehra Jale
@ellen_zehra_jale @michaeljelly You're right, my favourite part of this product is the actionable result - we can delete what we want facebook to no longer keep. Puts my mind at ease after the first initial shock
Victoria Duben
Michael, congrats with the launch! I really like what you do and I was shocked when I found out how many companies have my data. Even though I realise that FB knows a lot about us...
Michael Jelly
@victoria_duben Thanks Victoria! It always surprises people, even when you thought you had a good idea of what they were doing.
Jun Gong
This is exactly the product that I need. And good name also - almost thought it's Eth :)
Michael Jelly
@jun_gong So glad you like it! Yes the name we're really happy about, short for Ethical! We want to build a fully human-centred company that helps users fight back against Facebook, Google and the other data omnivores 😊
Jun Gong
@jun_gong @michaeljelly Just signed up on Ethi - you guys did a good job on the step-by-step guide 👍 Wondering if there's any plans on adding alternative sign in / authentication (something like https://docs.blockstack.org/auth...) So users will be able to control their data and account on Ethi? Just a thought :)
Michael Jelly
@jun_gong @michaeljelly One day! We would love to be a super-integrated and open platform, but that's all a lot of work and we decided to focus on our core use cases and validate demand before adding too many non-core but cool features like 3rd party auth!
Jun Gong
@michaeljelly it makes total sense! 💪
Paul Muller
@michaeljelly Love this!
Michael Jelly
@pythonpaul Thanks Paul! Feel free to DM me on Twitter with any feedback once you've used it!
