A wacky online island to get lost in, solve puzzles together and stop a rogue A.I. from uploading his malicious code onto the web. Created in Amsterdam by escape room designers Sherlocked and the team behind Mibo, the magical new videochat platform.
Super cool! Iβve been a big fan of the in-person escape rooms of Sherlocked so Im excited to see how this translates to an online experience.
What were some of the differences you had to deal with in order to move the escape room online?
@samuelbeek The obvious advantages are that you can dream up things like portals and pirate ships :) On the other hand you have to make up for the loss of sensory diversity that you get in a live room. Mibo gives a massive leg up there, because the feeling of 'presence' and especially *social* presence is so strong in their 3D video environment. If we'd have made it in any other platform, I think it would have been a much more challenging conversion.

This looks amazing!
Who came up with the TV-artsy visuals the are great!
Will you be adding options fot 2-3 oder 5-10 players at a later stage?
I added you to the front page of the list of https://www.virtualteamactivitie...
@jason_m1 Thank you! In addition to what Victor said: this edition is suitable for 4 players (but 5 is still possible). For next editions, we hope to make it possible for more flexible group sizes!
@jason_m1 Thanks Jason, the TV-artsy visuals are the brainchild of @m0rph3v5 aka Benjamin - one of the founders of Mibo itself. Stay tuned for their announcement tomorrow! And indeed, games for bigger groups are on the wishlist/roadmap
Super nice @victor_milton_van_doorn and team! We've used Mibo before to have funny creative meetings, with this game it makes it even better! If you would be able to expand the game regarding different scenes. Which scenes can you think of? Roaming Amsterdam and finding clues, or using photo realistic environments?
@victor_milton_van_doorn@stijn_van_vilsteren I think roaming through Amsterdam and using photorealistic environments could be interesting! On the other hand, it's really cool in working in this environment that there are more weird possibilities than in the real world, and that it's not realistic at all. I'm thinking about scenes with weird magnetic fields, playing with gravity... what would you think about those?
We built this game together with our fellow Amsterdammers, the team behind the spatial video chat platform Mibo (much more to come from them very soon!).
We're currently in strict lockdown over here, just like many parts of the world. Our aim with this game is to provide people with a way to have fun together, even when physically apart.
In Amsterdam, where we're based, the government is seriously considering a curfew or 'nightclock'. If that happens, we'll be even more confined to our homes and online experiences like these become even more important.
We made the game as fun, colourful and as accessible as we could, with the aim of giving a joyous experience to as many people as possible (we even tested it with some of the grandparents in our families. They required some guidance in the beginning, but it was striking how quickly they got the hang of it!)
We hope you enjoy it! Our hope is to make many more :)
I tried this out in beta and had a great time with it. Even without VR, seeing others faces on moving avatars gives you a surprising amount of presence running around with your friends!
My friends and I had a wonderful time playing Escape from Mibo Island. The technology works well, and it only takes a minute to get used to the controls and interface. It's a fun, 3D environment with good amount of details to explore. It took us about 30 minutes to complete.
