Ember is a native Markdown notes app for iPhone and iPad. Write in a live editor with tables, checklists, code, math, and Mermaid diagrams. Type a hex code like #E8743B and it appears in that color. Connect ideas with @ mentions, nested #tags, and Daily Notes, and search text inside PDFs and images. Prompt Vault saves your AI prompts with {{variables}} you fill in before copying. Unlimited standard notes and iCloud sync are completely free. The Mac app is in TestFlight.

Hi Product Hunt!
When I made my first mobile app in 2015, I noticed another app maker building a suite of quality companion apps that worked well together. A notes app was always one I wanted to make. With Ember, I pushed to make something I love using every day, the same way I did with my journaling app, Delightful. It's on iPhone and iPad, with early support for iOS 27 and iPhone Duo. The Mac app is in TestFlight.
I also wanted it to fit my AI workflows, so my prompts live side by side with my notes instead of in some other app.
A few things worth trying first:
- Type a hex code like #E8743B. It shows up in that color, which helps if you keep design notes.
- Paste a mermaid code block. It turns into a diagram inside the note, rendered on your device.
- Save a prompt with {{variables}}. When you copy it, Ember asks for each value and copies the finished prompt. There are 18 starters if you want to see how it works.
- Write @ someone or #work/ideas as you type. Both become ways to browse related notes.
- Search for a word that only appears in a PDF or a photo of a whiteboard.
The part I spent the most time on is under the editor. The live formatting runs on Cindermark, a Markdown parser I created and open-sourced.
Your notes live on your device and sync through your own iCloud account. There's no Ember account to create. Unlimited notes and iCloud sync are free. Pro adds more prompts and folders, themes, longer voice notes, version history, and bring-your-own-key AI with OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. Apple Intelligence features run on device and are free where they're supported.
Thanks for checking it out.
