DreamTone is a free sleep sound app that lets you MIX multiple sounds together — not just pick one loop. Why mixing matters: your brain adapts to a single sound fast, but layering 2–5 sounds creates a richer soundscape that lasts all night. 38 sounds across rain, noise, ocean, fire, nature, urban, meditation & binaural beats. Includes 19 presets, sleep tracking, smart alarm, sleep cycle calculator, offline mode, 7 languages, no account/data collection, and no $70/year paywall.

Hey Product Hunt,
I'm a solo dev who built DreamTone because I got fed up paying
$70/year just for rain sounds (yeah, Calm, I'm looking at you).
Quick background on how it got here:
• v1.0 (April): MVP with 13 sounds, shipped in 4 days
• v1.1: Tripled content to 38 sounds + 19 presets
• v1.4: Added sleep tracking, smart alarm, full sleep timeline
• v1.5 (current): Polished the alarm system, squashed bugs
A few technical bits if you're curious:
— All 5 noise colors (white/pink/brown/blue/gray) are synthesized
in real-time with AVAudioEngine. No audio files, just math.
— Binaural beats run dual oscillators with configurable frequency
offsets (Delta 0.5-4Hz for deep sleep, Gamma 40Hz for focus).
— The sleep timeline auto-transitions between phases:
Wind Down > Fall Asleep > Deep Sleep > Wake Up.
Coming soon:
• Breathing exercises (4-7-8 and box breathing)
• Apple Watch companion
• Siri Shortcuts
Business model is simple: free with non-intrusive ads. I think
sleep sounds should be accessible to everyone, not gated behind
a subscription paywall.
Curious to hear — what sounds actually help you fall asleep?

what do you actually listen to to fall asleep?
i'm stuck on brown noise + rain most nights. a friend only does fan hum.
someone else said ocean + nothing else or their brain won't shut up.
trying to pick the next preset for v1.6 and i don't want to guess wrong —
drop yours below, even if it's weird (train sounds? dishwasher? i'll try it)
