Hi Product Hunt, I build DaVinci Resolve plugins and OpenFX for a living, and I shoot and grade my own work. Every shoot ended the same way: a card full of Log footage that looks like grey soup in Finder, and no way to tell one clip from another without opening an editing app and scrubbing a timeline. I was launching a 3 GB application just to remember what I had shot. Divecut is the small app for the gap between "I shot it" and "I am editing it". It reads each clip's metadata, applies the matching Log-to-Rec.709 conversion on the GPU, and shows the footage correctly straight from the folder. Then you search it by typing what you remember seeing, cull it from the keyboard, and hand your selects off — still in Log, as the original files, with the conversion attached rather than baked in. Three things I'd rather say plainly than dress up: It converts 17 Log formats across ten manufacturers. Fifteen of those are implemented from the manufacturers' published transfer functions and gamut matrices rather than from an eyeballed LUT. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing (DJI D-Log M), the app says so and lets you assign a LUT instead of guessing. The colour was wrong for most of the build, and I only found out because I measured it. I drove DaVinci Resolve through its scripting API, rendered the same frame through its own colour management, and compared numerically. My picture was brighter by an average dE76 of 12.1. Sony's official LUTs agreed with Resolve, not with me. One exposure constant took it to 4.36. If I had trusted my eyes I would have shipped it wrong. This was my first Swift project. I had no boilerplate and no muscle memory for the language, and I built it alongside other work. The colour science and the plugin side were familiar ground; Swift, SwiftUI and the App Store were the parts I learned in public, one commit at a time — including a five-day stall because replying to an App Review rejection does not put you back in the queue. It never touches your footage. No transcoding, no proxies, no files written next to your clips. Search runs on-device, so nothing is uploaded and it works on a plane. Free for the first 100 clips with every feature — the limit is on library size, not on what the app can do. Mac and iPad, one purchase for both.
