DirectAI is a local-first AI workspace for chatting, reasoning, and editing files entirely on your machine. It runs fully offline with no cloud APIs or data uploads. Designed for users who want privacy, control, and a self-contained environment for working with AI directly on local files. Fun fact: DirectAI’s UI is built using the Godot engine, giving us a flexible and lightweight frontend usually used in game development. We chose it mainly for easy cross-compiling and cross-platform support.

Hi everyone, We built DirectAI as a local AI workspace built on top of llama.cpp, using optimized models and automated configuration to make local LLM usage easier. It provides a simple GUI for chatting, reasoning, and working with models locally, with automatic optimizations and support for more structured workflows like file-based interaction. The goal is to make running local models more accessible without being locked into a single ecosystem.
