Most journal apps want an account, a feed, or the cloud. Dear Universe stays on your phone. Open any day. Write, add photos or video, speak a note, and tag how it felt. Look back on a calendar — or see how the month felt. No diary account. Optional lock. Optional backup to your own Google Drive. Voice-to-text runs on the device. Journaling is free. Quiet ads after you start writing; a one-time purchase removes them forever.
Hey Product Hunt — I'm Denis, the solo maker behind Dear Universe.
I wanted a journal I would actually keep using: something that lives on the phone, not in someone else's cloud, and not in a feed. Most diary apps wanted an account before I could write a sentence. A lot of the newer ones want to be an AI coach. I just wanted a quiet place for a day — written, photographed, or spoken.
So that's what this is.
• Open any day on the calendar and add as many entries as you like
• Text, photos, video, and voice memos in one place
• Tag how it felt, then look back on a feelings month
• Optional on-device transcription (about 250 MB pack) — audio never needs a cloud speech API
• Optional passcode / Face ID / fingerprint
• Optional backup to a folder in your own Google Drive (a copy you control, not live sync)
• Works offline
• 13 languages
It's free to journal. Quiet ads show up after you've started writing. There's a one-time “Buy me a coffee” purchase (~$3.99) that removes ads forever — not a subscription.
I'd love feedback from this community — especially on the calendar + day flow, backup, and whether the feelings month is useful. If something feels off, tell me. I'm here all day.
