Deaddrop lets you send files securely and anonymously. Just upload your file, give it a name, set a password, and share the name and password — or simply send a direct link. It’s that simple.

Cool concept, but you stored the decryption key in the client which is never a good idea.

@0xretrodev This decryption key is used only for encrypting the sharing link; it has nothing to do with the file itself. Even if someone knows this key, they cannot access the files or any information associated with them. However, I will fix this by storing the key in an env variable. Thanks for pointing it out.

How does that not affect the file?

@0xretrodev To access the file, you need the name + password or a valid sharing link. However, to decrypt the password, you would need access to the sharing link in the first place — and this link is only known to the user who uploaded the file.
Also, when you open the link in the browser, it doesn’t automatically download the file. It simply fills the name and password into the UI, and the user still has to manually initiate the download.
It’s like instead of giving someone the name and password separately, you directly give them a link that makes downloading the file faster and easier.

Since links and passwords are shared separately is there a feature that automatically deletes a file after it’s been accessed once to enhance security even more?

@owen_keller Yes! When uploading a file on DeadDrop, you can set the maximum downloads to 1, which means the file will be deleted automatically after it’s been accessed once.
Nice initiative.. It will make file sharing easy for people with busy days and also for students who want file sharing without a physical usb...
The user interface is also very nice and I think this website has the potential to go very high!
