Press ⌘X on a file in Finder, then ⌘V where you want it, and it moves. Version 1.2 adds a shelf to gather files from many folders, ⇧⌘1 to ⇧⌘9 for your favourite folders, and a searchable log of every move. Open source, no tracking.

Four review rounds to get there, and one of Apple's objections genuinely improved the app. The first version asked Finder which files were selected, which needs a sandbox exception Apple no longer grants. Instead of arguing, I removed that whole path: CutX now presses Finder's own Copy for you and reads what Finder puts on the clipboard. Same result, no Apple Events, and the "control Finder" permission is gone. Everyone gets a simpler app out of it, on the store or not.
So CutX is now free in both places: the Mac App Store if you want one-click install and automatic updates, or GitHub if you'd rather have the source and a notarized direct download. Same app, MIT licensed, no ads, no tracking, no account, no network access at all.

CutX 1.2 is out 🎉 on the Mac App Store and GitHub.
Thanks to everyone who gave CutX a try. Here's what's new:
- The shelf: ⇧⌘X collects files from different folders, then you send them all to one place in one go
- Favourite folders on ⇧⌘1 to ⇧⌘9 (Settings ▸ Destinations)
- A searchable move log, so "where did that file go?" finally has an answer, and you can put it back
- Recent cuts, to cut or copy something again later
- When something can't be done, CutX now tells you why
- The menu bar icon now works with VoiceOver
Still free and open source, still no tracking, and Finder still does every move.

Update, a few days in: v1.1.0 is out, and it asks for one permission fewer.
Two things happened since launch.
First, the original build needed permission to "control Finder" on top of Accessibility — that was how CutX asked Finder which files were selected. I've rewritten that part: CutX now presses Finder's own Copy for you and reads what Finder puts on the clipboard. Same result, no Apple Events, no second permission. Accessibility is now the only thing it asks for.
Second, the App Store. Apple rejected the first submission, and one of their objections was exactly that Finder permission. Removing it wasn't a workaround — it's a better design — so I resubmitted. It's in review now. If it gets through, CutX will be on the Mac App Store as well as GitHub, free in both places.
Also fixed: the menu-bar count now clears the moment you copy something else, and a cut no longer silently fails when Finder is slow. Both came out of a proper QA pass, not luck.
