ContextSleep solves a systems problem: freeing up RAM without making users lose and rebuild their workspace context. A workspace can span VS Code, Chrome, local services, folders, and terminals, so simply killing processes is unsafe. GPT-6 Astra was used throughout the engineering of ContextSleep, not just for ideation. It helped build the Tauri/React app, Rust native layer, Chrome and VS Code integrations, durable checkpoints, safe close logic, cold-start restore, service restart/health verification, interruption recovery, and packaged end-to-end tests. Astra also helped solve a difficult ownership problem: multiple VS Code windows can share the same Code.exe process, so ContextSleep uses a fail-closed design instead of guessing which window is safe to close. The result is a local-first Windows utility with verified capture -> review -> sleep -> restore -> READY, restore evidence, crash-safe journals, and safety rules that leave ambiguous targets open instead of risking user work.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I built ContextSleep because I kept running into the same problem: my working setup would grow into VS Code windows, dozens of browser tabs, terminals, and local services all consuming RAM. I could close everything, but then I’d have to spend time rebuilding the exact context I was in later. The original idea was pretty simple: free up RAM without losing your workspace context. Reopening apps is the easy part. The hard part is knowing what is safe to close, preserving enough context to reconstruct the workspace, and then verifying that everything actually came back correctly. ContextSleep now captures a workspace first, lets you review what can safely be put to sleep, closes only supported parts, and verifies the reconstruction when you resume. If something is ambiguous, it prefers leaving it open instead of guessing. The current beta supports VS Code, Chrome, and approved development services, but the longer-term goal is much broader: let people put an entire working context to sleep across normal desktop apps too and bring it back when they need it. This is still early, and I’d especially love feedback on which apps or workflows you’d want ContextSleep to support next.
