What do you think? …

Chetan Nagaraja
I always pretended to be on fake phone calls to escape awkward social situations — so I built an app that does it for real. For years, if I was stuck in small talk, or trying to step out of a group conversation, meeting that's going nowhere, I’d instinctively pretend I was on the phone. It worked sometimes, but honestly? Faking a call usually felt more awkward than the situation itself. So I scratched my own itch and built ComfortCall — an app that actually calls your phone (from a verified number, not a fake screen) with natural scenarios like: • A friendly check-in ☕ • A quick work call 💼 • A safety call 🚶 • Or even scheduled reminders you set yourself 📅 That said, building it wasn’t easy at all. There were a lot of unknowns, like: • How do I make the call feel believable without confusing the user? • How do I design the call flows so they’re supportive, not gimmicky? • And most importantly — how do I frame this as wellness + safety, not just a “trick”? It’s still early, I’ve opened up a waitlist and will be inviting early users to try it. Would love to hear from anyone who’s ever done the “fake call trick” or wished their phone could bail them out of awkwardness.

What a fantastic idea but how realistic do the call scenarios actually sound?

Chetan Nagaraja
@donald_leo Thanks so much 🙌 That’s the part I obsessed over most. The scenarios are intentionally short and natural — things like a quick “Hey, just checking in” or “Can you step aside for a minute?” so they don’t drag on or feel scripted. I’ve been testing different voices + tones, and the early waitlist folks said they felt more like real interruptions than “fake calls.” The goal is that someone nearby wouldn’t think twice if they overheard it. Some of the scenarios where this app might save you. 1. Need a mom call to get away from friend house. 2. Small talk you are not interested. 3. Meeting that’s going nowhere. 4. Creepy stranger following you 5. Walking alone back from school/college 6. Creepy taxi driver Curious — what kind of scenarios would feel the you can use this ?
