[Weekend Build] My wife was curious about OpenClaw hype. As an engineer who has used many similar tools, I wasn’t surprised by the product itself—but I did find a few ideas that make the benefits of agents more accessible to non-technical users, such as the simple “Markdown UI”, file based setup, and lightweight integrations. However, the onboarding experience is not very friendly for non-engineers and raises some security concerns during setup and use. So I spent a couple of weekends rebuilding the bot and adding a proper control plane. Now I can spin up a team of agents in just a few clicks—define their roles, skills, MCP integrations, and software tools. Agents can create plans, coordinate with each other, and execute tasks collaboratively. I also added much finer control over each agent, including the runtime environment, tool approvals, and permission settings.
