Create trackable, self-destructing messages with end-to-end encryption. Share sensitive info via a one-time link and get a live status page to see when it's viewed. Anonymous, zero trace, and no account ever required. Built like an app, but on the web.

Hey Product Hunt friends! π‘οΈ
Meet CipherDrop β because your messages deserve protection without access, just like your money in the bank.
In the same way you trust your bank to protect your money without them being able to spend it, you should be able to send messages without the service provider being able to read them.
CipherDrop gives you that trust.
Why CipherDrop exists:
π€¦Tired of sending passwords, personal info, or sensitive messages through email/Slack/text β knowing they live forever in inboxes, chat histories, and server logs?
π Frustrated with "secure" tools that bombard you with ads, require accounts, or don't truly protect you?
π Want to send a secure message but can't because you need your other friend to download an app?
π‘Why not "drop a cipher" (encrypted message) instead? All from your browser, using a secure link, sending it in the same channels you know and love - but with zero risk?
What makes CipherDrop different:
ποΈ Live delivery tracking β Know exactly when (or if) your message gets opened. Or how long they read the message for, when they decrypted it, or even if they entered the wrong password at a given time.
π Time left to open message β The recipient isn't left in the dark either. They see a live timer of how long they have to read the message before it self-destructs. This means they can read the message when they are truly ready.
π Rich text support β Not just plain text! Add emojis, tables, URL links, block quotes, change text colors, and more to make your secure messages as expressive as they are private.
πͺ No accounts β Complete anonymity. You control who sees what, when. No need for the recipient to download an app.
π₯ Super ephemeral β Messages vanish forever the instant the link is opened. No permanent storage anywhere.
π Zero-access encryption β Same principle as @Proton. Your data is encrypted in YOUR browser before reaching our servers. We literally can't access your messages.
β‘ Forward secrecy by design β Each note gets a unique ID and encryption key. Even if one message is compromised, your past conversations remain protected forever (because they don't exist).
π‘οΈ AES-256-GCM encryption β Industry standard that protects against both decryption AND tampering. If even one bit is modified, decryption fails.
π Completely free, zero ads β Privacy shouldn't cost money or come with surveillance.
Who is CipherDrop for?
Anyone who wants to send messages securely but in a super cool way. Here are some examples:
π Landlords/tenants sending Wi-Fi passwords or security codes without them living forever in text threads.
πΌ Business professionals discussing sensitive deals or information that shouldn't exist in permanent email chains.
π» IT professionals securely distributing passwords, keys, or sensitive configuration data.
π Privacy-conscious individuals who believe their personal conversations shouldn't be permanent corporate assets.
π± People in sensitive situations where message history could be compromised or searched.
So far, my friends have been using CipherDrop to plan surprise birthday parties, send
snippets of novels in the making, send links to google drives privately. Even retirees planning their next golf outing but just like to do it with no trace π
Privacy isn't paranoia; it's a right.

@sean_peterkinΒ wow this is incredible and much needed!! From looking at this, I can tell a lot of thought and dedication went into building it. I just tried using this with a friend and it was cool to be able to track updates in real time. And itβs all so fast!! Iβm following along to see where this goes!
Just tried Cipherdrop β¦ super clean and easy to use. Love that thereβs no signup or tracking, just straight-up secure messaging and file sharing.
I had a recent need to share some sensitive information and this was so handy. Itβs so user friendly, the demo provides a clear walk through and you can be up and running using CipherDrop in less than 5 minutes. You can tell a lot of detail went into the encryption and feel extremely comfortable knowing your information is truly secure. I would highly recommend to anyone thatβs been wary about sharing sensitive information in the past or if you just want to talk about cool things in secret with your friends.
I tested CipherDrop early and loved the clean design. The status tracker is such a cool feature, and knowing if your message was read adds real peace of mind!
Super cool application! Feels secure and looks great!
CipherDrop feels like the minimalist, luxury version of file sharingβclean design, no ads, no clutter, and completely free. Itβs rare to come across a tool this polished that clearly puts the user first. You can tell it was built with care, intention, and a real passion for elegant, privacy-first tech. LOVE IT
