CastCut is a Mac app that edits multicam video podcasts for you. Drop in your camera files and audio: it syncs everything by sound, cuts to whoever is talking (even from one shared mic), clears dead air and filler words, and finds the clips worth posting as shorts. Then it opens a normal, editable multicam timeline in Final Cut Pro, with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve in beta. Runs fully offline on Apple silicon. First 2 exports free, no account.

What's great

Scanned and formatted 90 minutes of podcast footage in under 10 minutes.

Then I exported it straight to Final Cut with short-form Moments, a long-form episode, and a multicam setup all ready to go, and only needed a few small tweaks. That alone is a massive time-saver.

What really blew me away is that it works offline. Once you've downloaded the model CastCut needs, you don't need Wi-Fi at all, so I can take my editing anywhere.

Podcast editing in 2026 doesn't have to be tedious anymore.

What needs improvement

My laptop runs pretty hot during processing, which is understandable since the model runs locally, but better optimization would be welcome. Speaker detection could also be more reliable: in three-person setups, the third speaker sometimes isn't picked up. That may partly be my footage, since our camera setup isn't the most polished, but improved detection for less-than-ideal setups would make a big difference. Overall, it's a strong foundation, and I'm excited to see the features keep getting refined.

vs Alternatives

Descript

I was considering Descript's Hobbyist plan at $24/month, but CastCut gives me unlimited exports and offline editing for just $14/month.

For my workflow, it was a no-brainer.

What's great

Being a user of davinci resolve for editing podcast-type videos, I always thought that Davinci Resolve is the most user-friendly and simple interface software a person could ever ask. However, CastCut made it much simpler in terms of being user-friendly and having a simple interface to work with. Overall fantastic in terms of being simple to use.

What needs improvement

At this stage not much, however, I would love this software to extend its reaches to other devices such as PC, Android, etc etc.
