I just made a decision to use Dropbox + Carousel for family photos/sharing. So far it has been great. Carousel is a super clean app for grandmas (in my case) to use to keep track of their grand kids photos. Simple, clean, and beautiful. I have a laundry list of feature requests but so far it is a great start.
Oddly their site is up and the press went out but it's not available yet on the App Store or Google Play: "Carousel is taking longer than expected to go live in the App Store & Google Play. Please try again in a few minutes."
Excited to see Dropbox expand to multiple products. They're in a great place to shake up a few industries.
App Store approval might have taken longer than expected (happened to us today, the TC article went live before it was ready)
Really excited about this product!
From the home page video, it looks absolutely fantastic. Seems like a great move from Dropbox — a lot of other co's (ie. Google Drive) offer much cheaper storage but the user experience of Dropbox, Mailbox, Sold (?), Carousel, etc. will win.
Report
This is a very smart move to release a separate slick app for Photos and Videos. Previously, I was hesitant for Dropbox to upload my Camera Roll from the phone. The reason was the inability to intelligently display photos. That's why I went for PictureLife http://www.producthunt.co/posts/...
Now with the smart timeline photo-sort (and I assume more to come) Dropbox appeals much more as a storage for photos.
Long-term this a great move to increase conversion to paid plans for Dropbox. Photos&Videos have a property to eat up a lot of storage.
Really excited to move my photos off Loom. My photos/videos/etc are special to me, and Dropbox is clearly going to be around for a while -- so I feel much safer using them. (And I'm already paying for them, which works out well.)
