Calfkit enables developers to build event-driven, distributed agents, tools, and integrations on Kafka. Agents built with Calfkit are composed of separate, independently scalable microservices (LLM inference, tools, and routing) that communicate asynchronously through Kafka.

I started working on this project because I knew AI agents needed to work like real teams, with independent, distinct roles, async communication, and the ability to onboard new teammates or tool integrations without restructuring the whole org.
Existing AI agent frameworks are designed for single-runtime deployments and synchronous agent communication, meaning they're tightly coupled, hard to extend or adapt, difficult to scale, and unfit for high-throughput, production environments. These problems only compound in multi-agent systems.
Integrating multi-agent teams, their tools and integrations introduce classic scalability, reliability, and performance problems that are best solved by using event-driven architectures. This is why Calfkit focuses on enabling developers to natively build and deploy distributed, production-grade agents and tools on proven event-driven infra--Kafka.
