An indie iOS app for not just tracking — but also planning and analyzing — your budget. If you value money and want to be wise with your spending, or if you want to learn how to do budgeting, the updated Budget Hound is here to help you.
Hello, the PH community! 🤗
The new version of Budget Hound is finally out on Product Hunt, what a great day! 🚀
It's an absolute honor to be hunted by incredible @chrismessina! The Budget Hound squad is beyond excited to hear the new insights from the community that will help us take the app to the next level.
Some quick intro to Budget Hound: it is an iOS app for personal budget planning and expense tracking, which helps you stay smart with your money.
It all started in 2017, when I began to systematically track my budget and expenses. I got fed up with not having a clue about where my money was going and needed a digital assistant, but there was no app to match my needs and wants. So, taking all of my 10-year experience in iOS development, I created my own solution.
Budget Hound helps people with transparent budget planning and tracking, dividing all expenses into categories, counting up the daily limits and providing you with insightful analytics.
This launch has been a result of lots of hard work and testing. The app includes some cool new features which I personally enjoyed developing so much:
✅ Detailed analytics of all your financial activities.
✅ CSV export of transactions from your bank account.
✅ Planning tips.
✅ New languages: Spanish and German.
Take a minute to leave a review if you're already using the app, or spend some time getting started with planning your money using Budget Hound: https://www.producthunt.com/
Your feedback and support are invaluable!
So excited for our today's launch! I've been using the app myself for a while now and would love for the global community to experience an easier and more transparent budget tracking too 😍
Oooh this is really cool! As much as i do like apps that sync with my bank account, i feel like they never keep track quite the way i want, and its kinda nicer to sort out my discretionary spending in a manual way sometimes. I'm excited to use this! Just downloaded it and set up a budget. One question... is there a way for my "daily budget" to roll over? Asking because it would be cool to see that because i only spend $10 yesterday, today i can spend today's budget AND yesterday's leftover, etc.. And it just keeps accruing. Would this be possible? This is something I've been doing on a note app on my phone, so i would probably use budget hound instead if it could do that!
@britt_joiner Yes, this is exactly the mechanic that is used in the app. If you have spent less today, the app will recalculate the daily sum, enlarging it with the money that you didn't spend. And vice versa: if you exceeded your daily limit and occasionally spent more, then the app will reduce the daily budget accordingly.

Congrats on the launch, Alex! Budget planning is an issue for a lot of us and I'm glad there is growing development in this space. Is Budget Hound available worldwide?
Congrats on the launch 🚀
I was looking for a simple budget tracker, and now I tried Budget Hound. I really like the simple UI/UX and the clean explanation. Nothing more is needed from a budget app 😎
@sourabh_upreti yes, we for sure have it in our plans for the future

Nice video introduction and product :) Question: Is it available on Android?
And question two: Have you heard of the 50-30-20 budgeting method? I'm sure you can easily look it up online. Give the person the option to use this well-known method while you calculate the rest would be very interesting. For example, when someone is entering Rent and you know (they entered) that they are making $1500 per month, the 50-30-20 says that you should not spend more than 30% of your income on housing (and the remaining categories in the 50)
So, this kind of helps more rather than it just being a budgeting tool, we all want to budget, but having guidelines or a "tip advisor" while entering the info could really be useful. AI could even come here based on certain entries. I have a cool spreadsheet that i did a while back that explains the 50-30-20 and even the categories inside them how much is recommended to spend after various research done over a period of time and reading many articles etc. which I'd be happy to share if it comes in handy. Sorry for the long comment!
