Hi Product Hunt 👋
I’m Dan, and I built Broaden because I kept saying I wanted to read more, and kept doing exactly nothing about it.
I had the apps, the intention. But every reading app I tried had the same problem: too much noise. Hundreds of articles of low quality, an infinite feed, the same anxiety I was trying to escape by not opening Twitter. I’d open the app, feel overwhelmed, and go back to doomscrolling.
So I built the opposite. Every morning, Broaden gives you exactly 5 articles — AI-curated from quality sources based on topics you actually care about. You don’t need to read all five. Even one article a day keeps your streak alive, and over a week, that’s seven things you didn’t know before.
The constraint is a feature. Five articles a day. That’s it. Then you’re done.
What I’ve learned building this:
• Habit formation is about removing friction, not adding motivation. “Read one article” is a far more keepable promise than “read for 30 minutes.”
• The streak mechanic is more powerful than I expected. Once users hit day 7, retention changes dramatically.
• Article quality matters enormously. We curate from The Guardian, Aeon, Wired, Ars Technica, and 40+ other sources. No clickbait. No content farms.
Broaden is live on iOS today, soon to be published on Android. I’d genuinely love your feedback — especially on the onboarding flow, the article quality for your topic choices, and anything that felt confusing.
Happy Broadening! 🦫
