Backtrack originally came into being in 2019, as a side project, on our flight home from SF after a rough VC meeting. There was no way to record and remember moments after they had already happened. Fast forward to today, with a successful V1 Product Hunt launch & a product with a strong heart beat, we knew it was time to give the community what they wanted and deserved. Backtrack 2.0 is finally live on Product Hunt. It's a MacOS app that locally records your screen and audio (backwards) to catch those unexpected moments. There's a few things to know: 1. It records backwards - the signal to noise ratio in Backtrack is very high since we let you record backwards, giving you control over what to save. 2. It's 100% local recording - all recording is done locally on your Mac and we take it incredibly seriously. 3. Export your data - after creating a recording you can export your data and decide what to do with it. You aren't forced into anything. 4. Know your recording laws - just like with regular meeting recorders or specific interactions, know ahead of time if you need to properly disclose you're recording. We've worked around the clock this last year to bring the community exciting new features in the app like: - Internal Audio - Screen Recording - Transcription - Integrations & more! The backwards recording model is the smart part here, you get the high signal to noise ratio benefit without having to remember to hit record before something worth keeping happens. Most tools make you predict the future, this one just lets you decide after the fact.

The recording law disclosure point in the launch post is worth taking seriously too, a lot of people are going to reach for this in situations where consent actually matters and it's easy to forget that in the moment. Curious if the app does anything to nudge people toward disclosure, or if that's left entirely up to the user's own judgment.

I have been one of the lucky early adopters of Backtrack -- and it has become my memory magic maker. It has literally changed my workflow and ability to give more attention during meetings. I don't have to remember to record anything (which is literal GOLD for me), it allows me to capture how much of the meeting I want and I can choose who gets access to it. I cancelled a more well known competitor who just didn't stack up after our team tried Backtrack. Huge congrats to Hunter and Jordan -- if you don't know them, they're also amazing humans in addition to brilliant creators.

Nice product, upvoted!😊 I have a question, it says "...including Slack Huddles, Zoom, Teams, or in-person meeting", i couldn't see any information about in-person part. Can you explain it more? There are very few in-person meeting products on the market, that's why I want to learn it more 😊 Kudos to team 👋

@seymaalan I’d love to explain. Backtrack can record in 3 ways: 1) Speakers 2) Screen 3) Microphone Let’s say you have an in-person meeting. You can leave your laptop open during it and simply set it to capture microphone. Don’t worry, you can change what you’d like to save AFTER the conversation!
