Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m the solo maker behind AppGacha. I didn’t start this project because I wanted AI to generate more code. I started it because generated code still isn’t software for ordinary people. Today, you can describe an idea to an AI and get a page, a code snippet, or a repository. But then come the runtime, dependencies, databases, ports, deployment, packaging, and updates. The hardest part is often everything that happens after the code is generated. I believe software in the AI era should be something you can simply wish into existence, keep, and continue evolving. Not every personal need should have to become a mass-market product before an app can exist for it. AppGacha is my attempt to build that missing layer. You describe the app you want. An AI agent builds and verifies it, while AppGacha provides the persistent runtime around it: local data, files, permissions, desktop windows, floating widgets, notifications, schedules, AI capabilities, and even local-network communication. The result is not a project waiting to be finished. It is a small application that lives on your desktop. Each app and its data can travel together as a portable .gacha capsule. If your needs change, you can make another wish to evolve it. Why “Gacha”? Because generative results are not completely deterministic. Instead of hiding that uncertainty, AppGacha turns it into a playful, retryable creation ritual. It is not a loot box, and users are never charged for randomness. AppGacha is open source and local-first. You can use your own model key, while hosted AI and cloud sync remain optional conveniences. The question I’m exploring is no longer “Can AI generate an app?” It is: Will people keep using software that was created specifically for them? I’d love to know what you would wish for—and whether that app would still be useful to you a week later.

@umberto_abbatantuono Thanks, Honestly, probably not on its own. I see cloud sync as one convenience feature rather than the entire business model. AppGacha remains free and open source with BYOK. The subscription mainly provides hosted AI credits—both for building apps and for AI features inside the apps people create—along with cloud features such as sync and sharing. The real question I’m testing is whether that convenience is valuable enough compared with bringing your own keys. It’s still too early to claim that it is, but I hope this launch will help answer it.

Can building your own desktop app really start with one sentence?

Even with today s AI coding tools, creating an app often still means choosing a framework, installing runtimes, managing dependencies, configuring a database, and figuring out how to package and run it.

I wanted to remove that entire layer.
