What do you think? …

Hi Product Hunters! I’m Harry and a co-founder of Ango. Together with Samuel Holder, we’ve built a browser-extension that recommends product specific sustainable alternatives as you shop online. This is just a BETA and we’re looking for any and all feedback! Why we built Ango We built Ango to make sustainable shopping more convenient for consumers as they shop online. We found that consumers face two issues as they shop online: Truly sustainable products are difficult to verify without in depth knowledge, greenwashing makes this incredibly arduous. Sustainable alternatives are far too expensive, we found that on average, they’re 100-200% more expensive. This is a huge barrier for the majority of consumers. We want to help accelerate that transition to a more sustainable lifestyle and economy. Making sustainable, attainable. Key features of Ango 👌 Recommendations: Ango will recommend to you sustainable alternatives as you shop online. E.g., If you shopping on Next for a t-shirt, ango would simply pop up and show you the closest matching sustainable variant. 🔎 Search: We have input basic search functionality, this will be improved at a later stage! 💰 Discounts: With some of our partners, we have negotiated some exclusive discounts on sustainable products. ☝ Try us out on Chrome and Microsoft Edge Give us a try and please let us know what you think. It is only operational on Next, BooHoo and H&M with a relatively high degree of coverage and accuracy. We are very interested in feedback (good & bad) to make sure we continue to improve Ango in the right direction 🙂

?makers This looks really useful for me. How do you select which alternatives to show?
Harry Gadsby
@sarah_wright7 That's great to hear. We select alternatives by reviewing each brand across 78 metrics, essentially we're looking at how likely it is that a brands claims to 'sustainability' are backed by online evidence. For example, if a brand claims to pay fair wages but shows no evidence other than the statement, then we would deem this as greenwashing (until proven otherwise). Upon a completed review, a score is generated. Those that meet necessary threshold are incorporated into our recommendations. We'll be releasing our 'point system' once we're happy with it's performance, this will help improve general education on the matter and provide us some feedback.

I think there would be value in having you own shop url also that crawls and agregates products from other sustainable businesses
