Neat idea to curb the boredom and monotony of driving down the 101. Travelers should also check out Roadtrippers.
Alongways recently released an iOS and Android app as well.
@rrhoover Trover is an interesting app for this as well.

When we move back home (SF ---> Pittsburgh), this will be great to have. When we drove to SF, we stopped in Iowa to see the birthplace of Captain Kirk. If it can reveal those kinds of gems, I'm game!
So I mapped my road trip from last year and the first stop it suggested is:
Nevada Union High School: https://plus.google.com/10473744...
Read those reviews. I'm dying.
I'm infamous for getting sleepy while driving due to boredom. Perfect for someone like me that needs a nice distraction.
When I get bored on the road sometimes I'll ask Siri what's the nearest this or that, and a lot of times it will have me backtracking from my destination. Nice to know what you're going to run into ahead of time.
I'm curious what goes into the thought process of what you all find "interesting" - for instance I just looked up from Newport Beach to San Francisco. While the Merced National Wildlife Refuge sounds awesome, I could care less about airports on the way if I'm on a road trip.

this is beyond awesome. I tried all types of searches from BBQs to GoKarts to Denny's. This site serves up options along the route faster than you can say HolyKaw!
