👋 Howdy Product Hunters, I’m Harry, the editor of The Chatty Mammoth. Great to meet you!
First and foremost, thank you @5harath for hunting us! 😊
❓What is this non-extinct entity that we’ve called The Chatty Mammoth? ❓
We’re a newsletter (soon to expand to other channels) that removes the ‘time-vampires’ from reading. We find and summarise stimulating articles so that you can consume just the conversation-worthy components.
🤔 The Why 🤔
Pretty much everyone is familiar with the virtues of reading. But, are you happy with how much reading you actually fit into your day-to-day life?
As a team of writers, we were fed up with hearing our friends and colleagues complain that they don’t have enough time to prioritise reading.
The Chatty Mammoth is our solution.
🥳 How we help you read more 🥳
Each day we send you an email condensing, on average, 6000+ words (3 long-form articles) into a 2-minute read.
What we promise:
✓ We only choose articles that prompt new thoughts, perspectives or questions.
✓ We find articles from small, unknown or uncommon publishers. We don’t want to cover anything that you may have already seen.
✓ We summarise each article with the intention of providing one central takeaway
❌ We DON’T stick to one specific niche - we believe a broad knowledge-base is key to enjoying the small things in life
❌ We strictly avoid anything considered common knowledge
💰 A bit of an incentive 💰
If the thrill of new knowledge each day isn’t enough, then perhaps our exclusive Product Hunt deal will entice you:
Our standard pricing (🥱): USD $2.73/week (i.e. $140/year)
Our Product Hunt deal (🤠): 🎉 USD $10 for LIFETIME access 🎉
🚀🚀🚀 Simply head to this URL to redeem the offer: https://tinyurl.com/TCMdeal 🚀🚀🚀
Let loose with any questions, or if you don’t have any questions, pose us a riddle. We’ll start: What is broken when it is not held?
Wishing you a great day!
All the best,
Harry Heyworth

Congrats for the launch. Looks great product to me.
@5harath@hazheyworth Cool idea! Is there any main theme in each newsletter? Or the summaries are from very different articles?
Congrats on your launch :)

@5harath@benjamin_grandfond2 Good question Ben! We haven't adopted a themed approach, although I quite like that idea! Currently you can be reading about UFOs one minute and then Chocolate the next :)
I've been a subscriber to The Chatty Mammoth and the content has always been interesting, insightful, and educating. I love how the service saves me from having to dig through numerous blog posts, getting bombarded by ads and irritating popups. It's not just about the time it's saved me but the mental clarity as well.
Puzzled by the price? well, I too was at first, but the quality of content has always been top quality and I can certainly say that it's more than worth it. In the words of Warren buffet, 'Opportunities come infrequently. When it rains gold, put out the bucket, not the thimble' this is definitely an offer you wanna take up, and I'm recommending that my friends take it up and join the herd!🐘

Hi CM. Does your subscription service have a political agenda/bias? Or is it a neutrally opinionated service?
Report
@sammy_sutherland Hi Sammy! Thanks for the question. We actively avoid anything with a political agenda! We prefer philosophical debate over political debate :)
Although I've subscribed through the PH landing page I can't access the archive. It says 'Whilst you are a member, you do not have permission to see this page. This page is for paid memberships only'. What does this mean?

@markoxvee Hi Marko! Thanks for spotting that bug - I believed it is fixed, and you (alongside all other subscribers) should have access now :)
@hazheyworth Nice one, archive looks amazing, great job!

Hey, nice little utility. A couple of quick comments:
* When I see the curation, I am interested to see the source name too. Sometimes the *Read full article* incentive is tied to the source whether it is Bloomberg story, or NYTimes or what else.
* How far I can curate it for the topics of my interest only? I used Paper-li, Scoop-It like services in the past, and curation can be mixed-bag really unless users have the control over the information that they want to see/read.
* I guess you pick stories that are free for public, and not really gated content that is behind a paywall. Right?
Report
@vingar Wow! Thanks for your range of questions - I appreciate how much thought you put into them. To answer in order:
- Thats a good point! We currently don't put the source names in our emails, but will look into that (it should be easy enough to implement). Especially as we use less well known website, our subscribers may be interested to see the types of places we get our content from without having to click through.
- We try to be as receptive as possible to our subscriber's requests; in saying that, we evidently can't make the whole newsletter curated for just one user, but if we get a few users mentioning that they want more Philosophical content, for example, then we'll make an effort to include that.
- Absolutely! On the rare occasion we'll refer to a site that has X amount of open articles before there is a paywall. But yes, the strong majority of the content we link to is open
Hope that helped clarify a few things :)

@hazheyworth Perfect.
- For one: May not be easy enough because it builds your taxonomy. Somewhere it needs to scale and might impact the URLs, tagging, and nested taxonomy too. :)
- For two: Users love to have that control with them rather than requesting you to curate for their interests.
A great product for folks who wants to make reading a habit but has no time. Love the simplicity of the newsletter and the design!

I have been using your service for the past 3 months- so stoked to have come across you on Product Hunt!! Absolutely thrilled with my experience, and my Chatty Mammoth articles have become part of my morning routine. I've had such a diverse range of topics and learnt so much which has been great as a Uni student. Congratulations on this launch.
