Star Sailors is a browser-based citizen science game where you explore space using real astronomical data. Deploy a virtual telescope, discover and customise exoplanets, track weather systems, and hunt asteroids and comets. Learn scientific methods by doing, contribute to real research, and collaborate with other citizen scientists — no scientific background required.

Hey guys!

About 5 years ago, I was getting ready to finish high school in Australia and not sure what I wanted to do with my life. All I knew was I wanted to contribute to science in some way, and that I wanted to make games.

After cutting my teeth on decentralised scientific publishing & science research as an engineer with DeSci Labs, and a CTO at Copernic Space, I continued my research and passion to create Star Sailors, the continuation of various narratives and minigames I've been building for years.

Science should be open for anyone to contribute to. Regardless of age, educational background or financial situation. Star Sailors is the next stage of citizen science.

I've taken Star Sailors through multiple incubators including three series with Buildspace's Nights & Weekends programme, and I've been fortunate to work with some amazing people across the world to bring this product to fruition.

Even though we're launching the Product Hunt page today, there's still so much we're working on. Minigames around honey fraud detection & finding water on Mars are just two of the planned extensions we have in development to expand the ecosystem.

looks cool brother! will take a look. have you considered making a native version for mobile?

💡 Bright idea

Congrats on the launch! I’ve known for a long time that "citizen science" can help identify astronomical objects, but I’ve always found those projects have such a steep learning curve. Your product looks like a promising way to make it more accessible. Excited to see where this goes!
