Hi everyone, I am one of the co-founders at Salary Fairy. Our goal is to inform our users of their market value and help them find better paying jobs if they are underpaid.
We launched 5 weeks ago and we currently have over 2,800 users who have made 38,000 salary predictions. Looking forward to your questions and feedback.
@gozdeaksay You have built some really addicting engagement mechanisms in your product, kudos! I want to ask you, what's the optimal way to use this predictive data you are generating?
Thank you @rrhoover! We think that the job market is not efficient as salaries are not discussed openly. This causes information asymmetry and many professionals are underpaid as a result. I was one of them! So we wanted to create a platform where people can learn more about their market value and act upon it if necessary.
I like the idea here, but there's a pretty big privacy concern for me. When I started predicting other peoples' salaries, I realized that I could see role + company + tenure. For people on small teams at well-known companies, this outs you pretty quickly. Have you thought about anonymizing this?
@joellewenstein I felt the same unease, then I realized I could go into my imported profile and edit out names & information for privacy reasons. Also, noticed some people have done that themselves, somebody's school name was "Top 5 Business School"

@gozdeaksay This is interesting. But, what do I do with this information? I gave it a test run, and the results were about ~20% off of my actual total cash comp. Is that because I make too much money? Or is it because people don't know what a program/product manager makes?
The site is really nice looking, and it was fun to make predictions on other peoples.
Thanks a lot Kevin! We calculate accuracy of predictions and remove outliers from prediction data. If a user is consistently making bad predictions, their predictions are ignored in our results.
