Robot Rumble

Fast-paced mobile card battles with chaotic combos

Robot Rumble is a fast-paced mobile card battler built around chaotic, unpredictable gameplay. You play your hand cards first, then your face-up that all players can see and finally the mysterious face-down cards you can’t see - these turns easy wins into sudden defeat. The game stays loud, emotional, and fun, with every match playing out differently.

Hey everyone! Robot Rumble started as a small idea: we wanted to create a fun, chaotic card game inspired by fun family games like Uno + Exploding Kittens and those wild robot-fighting shows from the 2000s.

Originally the plan was to make a simple physical card game but at some point we thought: why not try turning it into a mobile game too? As app developers, we had never touched game development before, so this project quickly turned into a real challenge for us. There were far more unexpected details, edge cases, and design problems than we imagined. But the more we built, the more fun the game became – and that kept us going.

Now we’re finally close to launch, and we’re really excited to share it.

Any feedback from you means a lot – it will help us polish Robot Rumble even further.

Hey 👋

I wanted to share a bit of my journey as the Product Designer behind Robot Rumble.

We started simple: a 2D card game inspired by our physical prototype. But as we iterated, we realized the game needed way more personality. That led us into 3D – something I’d never done seriously before. The learning curve was intense, but watching rough shapes turn into actual assets became one of the most satisfying parts of the project.

The tone of the game actually came from our chaotic brainstorming sessions. Ideas like "What if the announcer sounded like a sarcastic GLaDOS?" or "What if the loser gets their cake shredded?" started as jokes but ended up defining the game’s soul.

We also spent a lot of time shaping the overall feel of the game. Not just how it looks, but how it sounds and reacts in your hands. Sound design, timing, and haptics became just as important as the visuals. Those little vibrations and audio cues added an extra layer of immersion – the kind that makes the game feel more physical and alive.

Building this was just as chaotic and fun as the game itself. Hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it! 🤖💥

Congrats on the launch! Matt you have such a high standard for everything you ship. Between Opal, Days, your other iOS apps, and now Robot Rumble everything you work on turns out beautifully. Been enjoying this one and excited to play more of it!
